My Story
Hi, my name is Michele but my friends call me Micky. A million years ago, or so it seems, my husband and I lived in the suburbs of Philadelphia. We had just gotten married and basically never saw each other, each of us toiling at our preferred professions. We continued along the expected trajectory and I got pregnant with our first child. The day our son was born, was the day we started to see our lives through a different lens. Our sweet little boy was born with Down syndrome and Autism to boot. We are pretty resilient folks, so we took a quick breath and plowed on. Voila! baby number two, a daughter. We looked at those two sweet children and realized something had to change, so my husband asked for a demotion and we picked up our lives and moved to Vermont.
We stepped out in faith and desperation and bought a house with twenty acres, even though we hadn’t sold our other one. That was 1997 and I still kiss my sweet little boy, who isn’t so little anymore, for being the driving impetus for bringing us here. We raised two beautiful children, two dogs, one cat and about a dozen or so ducks over the years. I still to this day do not take the beauty of this beautiful state for granted. Vermont isn’t always an easy place to live, but I believe it is one of the best places to live. I feel so blessed by my life and the experiences I have had and I still believe myself to be a tourist or as the locals like to say, Flatlander.
